A Christian on the run

This was my experience before I left the way I had been born and raised in, and followed for 44 years!!

It’s all too easy,
to be a Christian on the run,
Snatching precious moments
With Jesus, God the Son,
Dipping into scripture
Like you’d no time just to wait,
To hear God speaking to you,
In which time it’s too late.
Thinking what’s for dinner,
Hanging washing on the line,
Missing prayerful moments,
Thinking “I’ll be fine”!
Sinking into bed at night,
And manage  just to pray,
“Thank you Lord for everything
That I’ve received  today.”

However there’s a feeling,
Somewhere deep within,
A dull and heavy weight
Of  unacknowledged sin,
Excuses like, I don’t have time,
I feel too tired to pray,
No time to bow before you Lord,
At the end of every day,
And to pray before the day begins,
Well, I need to beat the clock
The time just flys each second counts
With every tick and tock.

But then you opened up my eyes!!!
You made the way so clear
I let go off the man made way,
You set me free from fear,
And now I give you first place
In My heart, and every day
I surrender all to you,
My will, my  life my way.

Oh Jesus, my dear saviour,
You never ceased to climb,
The mountain side to be alone
With your father,spend some time,
Even if it meant all night,
In communion deep and sweet,
Or in the daytime hours
In the noonday fiercest heat.

Lord Jesus you have taught me,
By example as you walked,
On Earth, the holy word made flesh,
With your father you just talked.

Let me never dare to start
A new day without prayer,
Saying “Lord, this day is yours”
I know how much you care,
I rest in your unfailing love,
I need not anxious be,
The day will work out as it should,
As I just cleave to thee

  1. Lou, I agree with Margaret that this is a beautiful poem – it is so real and challenges us all in our everyday life. Love the verse:
Let me never dare to start
    A new day without prayer,
Saying “Lord, this day is yours”
I know how much you care,
I rest in your unfailing love,
    I need not anxious be,
The day will work out as it should,
As I just cleave to thee………………………….I say, Lord help me to do just that!!!
